Caring for your Thermo Wood
🧾 Keep the Exterior of Your Icetub and Sauna Looking Like New
Your IceBarrel, IceBath, or Sauna is wrapped in durable Thermo Wood, chosen for its water resistance, structural integrity, and timeless look. While it’s built to withstand the elements, it still needs basic maintenance to keep its color, texture, and longevity intact.
🪵 Why Thermo Wood Needs Care
Thermo Wood is heat-treated softwood designed to resist swelling and shrinking. Over time, however, exposure to UV light, moisture, and temperature changes can cause it to fade or crack if untreated. A once-a-year care routine will keep it sealed, hydrated, and beautiful.
🧴 How to Maintain Thermo Wood
Clean the Surface
Remove dirt and debris using a damp cloth or soft brush. Do not use high-pressure washers or harsh chemicals.
Apply Wood Oil
To restore richness and protect the wood from drying or fading:
-
Use a UV-resistant natural wood oil (we recommend this one)
-
Apply with a clean rag or sponge in the direction of the wood grain
-
Let it absorb fully, then wipe off any excess to avoid sticky buildup
-
One coat per year is typically sufficient
Best Conditions for Application
Choose a dry day with temperatures between 10–25°C. Avoid applying wood oil in direct sunlight or rain.
🛑 What to Avoid
-
Don’t use chlorine, salts, or abrasive chemicals
-
Don’t let water sit on the surface for extended periods
-
Don’t cover wet wood with airtight covers—it needs to breathe
💡 Tip for Sauna Owners
If your sauna is placed outdoors, applying oil to the exterior cladding is especially important. It helps resist UV and weather damage, while also preserving the wood’s natural insulation properties.
