PL (P01) Error - And how to solve it
🚨 Understanding the PL Error
-
PL Error = Flow Error
The engine’s flow switch cannot detect water movement, causing a safety shutdown to prevent pump damage. -
Not necessarily a technical issue
A PL or P01 error can often be caused by something blocking the water flow. After refilling the Icetub with clean water, air could be stuck in the piping. Also, dirt might have gotten stuck in the pump. This is why using the Icetub filter is so important.
🔧 Try the Following Steps:
1. Inspect and Replace the Filter
A clogged filter can block water flow.
➡️ Check your filter for heavy saturation, dirt, or debris.
➡️ If dirty, replace the filter using this video guide.
2. Air Release for Cooling Unit
Air trapped in the system can also cause flow issues.
Perform an air release by following this video guide.
3. Check the Pump Power Connection
Sometimes the pump’s power adapter can disconnect.
Open the back cover of the engine, and ensure the pump plug is securely connected.
View the pump connection image.
4. Flow Sensor Troubleshooting (Specific Engine IDs)
If your engine ID is 1.089.001.2053 , a water flow sensor issue could be the cause.
Follow this Flow Switch PDF guide.
5. Ozonator Settings and Air Leaks
-
Confirm that no leaks are present around the engine.
-
Make sure the Ozonator is set to Automatic mode (not Manual).
The Ozonator icon should only appear when the pump is running, not flicker constantly.
🛠️ If the Issue Persists After Troubleshooting
If, after all these steps, your engine still shows the PL error:
-
Confirm that after removing the filter and blowing water through the inlets with a hose for 5+ seconds, the PL error still appears.
-
Confirm that no physical obstructions (dirt or debris) entered the pump.
-
Confirm that Ozonator settings are correct.
🛑 Important: Improper Filter Use Can Damage Engines
Sometimes the root cause of a persistent PL error is incorrect or missing filter use.
-
Dirt, hair, and oils can accumulate inside the system when filters are not used properly. This eventually leads to pump or flow sensor damage.
-
There are visual examples of damage caused by improper maintenance available upon request.
