White Flakes in your Icetub - How to solve it
🧾 Small Particles Appearing in the Water
Sometimes you may see white flakes coming from the engine that disappear again in the water. These can look black in a video due to the shadow they cast, but are light-colored particles floating from the engine.
This is usually not harmful and is often caused by either bacterial buildup or calcium deposits.
🦠 Bacterial Build-Up
If water cleaners haven’t been used consistently, bacteria may form and detach from inside the engine or pipework.
AquaFinesse helps resolve this by detaching the biofilm (a sticky layer that hides bacteria). The Ozonator then kills the bacteria, and the filter removes the particles, keeping your water clean.

🧪 Calcium Deposits (Limescale)
In areas with hard water (typically with a dH above 7), calcium and magnesium can clump together and become visible in the tub.
These deposits don’t damage your Icetub or engine, but they can appear as white flakes floating in the water.
🧼 How to Prevent Flakes
Use Half the AquaFinesse Dose
After refreshing the water, begin with half the standard dose of AquaFinesse for the first two weeks. This slows down the calcium reaction and helps avoid flakes. After two weeks, resume the full weekly dose.
Use a Mix of Softened and Tap Water
If you have a water softener, fill your Icetub with 50% softened and 50% unsoftened tap water. This lowers calcium buildup while keeping the pH stable.
💧 Summary
-
Use AquaFinesse weekly to prevent biofilm and bacteria buildup
-
If using a water softener, fill the tub with a 50/50 mix
-
If not using a softener, use half AquaFinesse dosage for the first 2 weeks
-
Keep pH between 7.2 and 7.8 for optimal water balance
